Make Waves: Celebrate, Donate, Educate

Make Waves: Celebrate, Donate, Educate

Gig Harbor, WA

Harbor WildWatch is thrilled to host their third annual benefit, Make Waves: Celebrate, Donate, Educate on Thursday, September 14 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Held at The Club @ The Boatyard in downtown Gig Harbor, this fun-filled event will provide 100 guests with delicious food, drinks and entertainment while learning about the unique programs Harbor WildWatch delivered in the community over the past year.

Guests will enjoy a localvore’s delight from Sunshine All Naturals catering and Taylor Shellfish Farms, craft cocktails from Heritage Distilling Company, and musical stylings from pianist Elijah Bossenbroek. Local marine science teacher and 2012 National Geographic Grosvenor Fellow, JoAnn Moore, will provide a keynote address on the profound impact she believes environmental education has on our youth. A silent auction will be offered with a unique mix of Puget Sound experiences to include a 3-hour sail on the tall ship Adventuress, an overnight stay on the yacht Suite Dreams, and a sea plane ride to the San Juan Islands! The ‘Raise the Paddle’ portion of the evening will follow, with a goal of raising $10,000 for Harbor WildWatch’s popular youth education programs in 2018.

Harbor WildWatch has delivered fun and innovative educational programs to children and adults in the greater Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula communities since 2004. From science, technical, engineering and math workshops in local classrooms to family-friendly beach walks and touch tanks at local parks, Harbor WildWatch has inspired stewardship to over 200,000 residents and visitors in their thirteen-year history. The enthusiasm of their youth and adult volunteers as well as the excitement of the kids attending the programs is testament to the positive impact that hands-on science experiences can provide. Just ask a child in your life if Harbor WildWatch has visited their classroom…you will enjoy their excited response!

Community support is integral to Harbor WildWatch’s ability to deliver free and low-cost programs to local school children and the public. You can show your support for community-based environmental education by attending the Make Waves event on September 14. “Our small staff and passionate volunteers deliver over 600 education programs each year,” said Executive Director, Lindsey Stover. “We are excited to celebrate that success with our community members and build support for new educational endeavors in 2018 and beyond!”

Limited seating is available for this 21+ event, with tickets at $75 per person for Steward Club members and $100 per person for non-members.
