Providing Wellness Care and Emergency Services

Providing 24/7 quality veterinary care for small animals in the community of Gig Harbor, Uptown Animal Hospital offers both general practice services as well as 24-hour emergency services.

“Being open around the clock and providing both wellness and emergency services makes Uptown Animal Hospital unique,” says Ann Valenti, DVM. “We have a very dedicated staff to help clients and patients through often hard decisions surrounding an emergency situation. Uptown knows how pet emergencies can be stressful, and we strive to make it as easy as possible by being open 24 hours and located right in Gig Harbor.”

At Uptown, they offer regular veterinary practice services such as vaccinations, microchip implantation, wellness examinations, routine surgery, X-rays, in-house labs, ultrasound and dental care. They offer all-life phase care from puppy/kitten to senior pets.

“Being able to provide wellness care and emergency services in the Gig Harbor community has been very rewarding,” says Dr. Valenti. “The community needed something on the Gig Harbor side of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to serve the need for emergency care, and clients have been very supportive of our hospital.”

Mollie Hoff is the chief operating officer of the Lakefield Veterinary Group and has lived in the Gig Harbor community for many years. She had a vision—to bring a 24-hour facility to the community. Valenti joined the Lakefield family several years back and, she too, had always envisioned a 24-hour facility that combined general practice and emergency and after-hours care to best serve the community.

“I relocated to Gig Harbor from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota in February of 2018 as medical director at Uptown Animal Hospital because it completely aligned with my goal,” says Dr. Valenti.

Together, she and Lakefield Veterinary Group are able to serve the Gig Harbor community in a more "full service" capacity.

In addition to their compassionate care for their furry patients in house, Uptown Animal Hospital supports the Prison Pet Partnership Program, making themselves available when there is a pet emergency. “This incredible program provides training, boarding and grooming for dogs in the community as well as special training of service dogs for people in need,” says Valenti. “The women at the prison participate in the care, training and grooming programs as part of their vocational education. This program benefits the women, dogs and community.”

Uptown Animal Hospital and the Lakefield Group have also united with World Vets in Gig Harbor to help injured marine mammals that may need veterinary care. In addition, on a more global level with World Vets, the Lakefield Group sent members of their team to Nicaragua to help family owned pets with wellness checks, spaying and neutering. This is becoming an annual event for the group, and Dr. Valenti had the privilege of participating last year, where she and a team of 16 volunteers did more than 250 community wellness exams, spayed and neutered almost 250 family owned cats and dogs, and vaccinated 500 pets for World Rabies Day.

Be on the lookout for the Uptown crew at local events as well, such as the Maritime Gig Festival and Harbor Hounds!

Uptown Animal Hospital is open for general care Monday through Saturday, 8am to 5:30pm, and offers 24-hour service for urgent and emergency services.

If you are a pet parent looking for a compassionate and trustworthy team delivering exceptional service, Uptown Animal Hospital & 24 Hour Emergency Care is there to meet those needs.
