“I have always enjoyed helping others. Whether through my job or in my community, I get great satisfaction in helping those in need of help.”
In August of 2019, Chris Maharry started Harbor Family Law, which opened its doors to the Gig Harbor community this past November. “I am very excited to bring my family law practice across the bridge to Gig Harbor. I am proud to be a business owner in the town in which I live and raise my family,” says Chris. “Gig Harbor is a special place, and I look forward to being of assistance to anyone who may need my help.”
At Harbor Family Law, you will find a hard-working and dedicated staff. Chris brings 16 year of Pierce County family law experience, including 13 years spent working for a larger firm. He is joined by paralegal Tracie Romeo, who brings decades of experience in the area of family law. Tracie is dedicated to the clients they serve and the work they do at the law practice. “She does so much for the business, and we simply could not exist without her support and commitment,” says Chris.
Chris’ wife Kelli Maharry has also been instrumental in the creation and success of Harbor Family Law. As the firm’s operations and marketing manager, Kelli has worked tirelessly getting their systems in place to make sure the practice functions efficiently to best serve their clients and getting the word out about the business’ opening. “She wears many hats for the business, and I never could have got our business off the ground without her,” affirms Chris.
From simple uncontested cases to highly litigious multimillion-dollar cases, Chris brings skill and dedication to the job and has a reputation as both a strong advocate and a problem solver. “While I am willing to fight hard for my clients, I feel I have an obligation to never make matters worse, which can sometimes happen with an overly aggressive approach to a family law matter,” says Chris. “I take pride in being able to be versatile in my approach and tailor my practice to each individual case.”
Family law legal services offered at Harbor Family Law include divorce, legal separation, child custody, visitation and parenting plans, child support, spousal support, rights of unmarried parents, parenting plan modifications, child support modifications, property and debt division, paternity matters, grandparent visitation, prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, domestic violence protection, domestic partnerships and committed intimate relationships, adoption and collaborative law.
“Most often, the people who need my help are going through one of the most difficult times of their life. This is a heavy burden and one I do not take lightly,” states Chris. “People trust me to help them when they are at their most vulnerable. To be able to help guide people through the process and put them in the best position possible to move forward in their lives is very rewarding. I take pride in being able to guide people through these tough times, giving them a sense of calm and the knowledge that a better tomorrow is ahead.”
Having grown up in Port Orchard, Chris attended college at Western Washington University in Bellingham, followed by law school at Seattle University, after which he began his law career in Tacoma. He continued to live in Seattle until meeting his wife Kelli and deciding to start a family. “My wife and I both have family in Gig Harbor, so when we decided to start our own family, moving back to the peninsula was an easy decision,” says Chris. “We love Gig Harbor and feel so lucky to get to raise our children in such a wonderful community.”
Chris sits on the Advisory Council at the Tom Taylor YMCA and says he is honored to support their mission. “They do so much for our community and the children of Gig Harbor, and I am honored to be able to help that cause.” Kelli sits on the Board of the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation’s Curious By Nature School, which their children attend. Kelli is proud to support the one-of-a-kind program, which brings kids closer to nature in a way that supports their discovery of the world we live in. The GGHF is instrumental at closing the early childhood learning gap in our community by providing scholarships and grants to those who would not otherwise be able to provide their children with a whole-child early learning environment.
If you are experiencing a difficult situation and are looking for a local family law firm to help guide you to a peaceful solution, Harbor Family Law is here to help.
