Igniting the Creative Spirit of Gig Harbor

By Jillian Chandler

Spring is in full swing here in the harbor, which means there’s no better time to get outdoors and celebrate all this season has to offer. Mark your calendars for May 13 for a new market you won’t want to miss!

The Local Makers Spring Market & Festival, in partnership with the City of Gig Harbor, will make its debut just in time for Mother’s Day. From 10am to 3pm, the community is invited to gather together to celebrate spring and the immense creativity that can be found right here in Gig Harbor.

Held at Gig Harbor’s Civic Center Green (3510 Grandview Street), the Local Makers Spring Market & Festival will feature more than 50 local makers and artisans, as well as “mini-makers” (youth entrepreneur makers) showcasing their skills. Discover the diverse array of handmade goods, everything from jewelry and pottery, to skin care, to baked goods—and, of course, a whole lot more!

In addition to the dozens of makers and artisans selling their goods, there will be local food and beverage vendors, DIY creative and pampering workshops, face painters, balloon artists, an aerial artist, and much more! Live music from local performers will fill the air throughout the event. And be sure to snap a photo in front of the local artisan-designed mural, which has been commissioned specially for the event.

"This event will be one of the highlights of the spring season for residents and visitors alike," shares Caasi Dickens, founder of Local Makers Gig Harbor. "We're coming together as a community to ignite the creative spirit of Gig Harbor. It will be a fantastic opportunity to discover unique, locally made goods, support local artisans, and have a great time with friends and family in a beautiful outdoor setting."

Held the day before Mother’s Day, this is a wonderful event to treat Mom to. "We wanted to create an event that would be the perfect way for families to spend quality time together on this special occasion weekend," smiles Clare Dunis, Local Makers member and co-organizer of the event. "Whether you're looking for a unique gift for Mom, seeking inspiration for your own creative projects, or simply want to relax and have some fun, this festival has something for everyone."

And there’s more good news. The event is free to attend! For more information about the event, including participating vendors, entertainment, activities and workshops, visit LocalMakersGigHarbor.com or follow the Local Makers Spring Market & Festival event page on Facebook.
